Erik Gonzalez

Hello!

My name is Erik Gonzalez and I am a VFX artist who is currently a DFX Supervisor in Montreal, Canada at MPC. With a foundation of artist time served in Look Development, Lighting, and some Compositing, I’m continually on the journey of collaborating with VFX companies to help deliver creative shots for the film/tv industry. While helping to ensure and deliver the visions of clients and VFX supervisors alike, the art for me has always lied in the communication, planning, and execution of a show as a whole for the end product, in complement to the images. From working with other managers/producers on the overall schedule, to the minutia of rendering pixels, I have a proven track record of bringing efficiency and results to any project I’m involved with.

I obtained my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts from the Academy Of Art University in San Francisco for Visual Effects and Animation, with an emphasis on Compositing. There, I gained early real world experience through special relationships the school had with the independent film community. Through this unique opportunity, I was able to develop an industry strengthened resolve while completing my first compositing work in school on the feature film, Synechdoche, New York, in 2008.

After graduation in 2009, I went to work at Sony Pictures Imageworks in Culver City, California, where I siphoned off knowledge from some of the most skilled artists and supervisors in the industry at that time, adding Lighting and Look Development to my skill set, and gaining proven education on how visual effects operate in aggregate, an experience I refer back to still to this today.

I moved to Montreal in 2014 to work with MPC as a Lighting and Look Development artist, and moved to a Lead position not long after. In 2018, I took on the role of CG Supervisor. Since then, I’ve been with MPC Montreal working on a variety of high profile projects such as Transformers: Rise Of The Beasts, Ghostbusters: Afterlife, and Godzilla: King Of The Monsters. Recently in 2023, I was promoted to DFX Supervisor to join the team for Mufasa, the anticipated CG animated Lion King sequel.

In 2024, I completed 15 years in the visual effects industry. During these years, I’ve been proud to have worked with teams of human beings whom have had the strongest determination and desire in being able to contribute to the magic behind every pixel of the movie making experience. I strive to maintain this spirit in all my future endeavors.
